On Thursday, June 6, 2019, Events DC held a luncheon at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center honoring its Fiscal Year (FY) 2019 Community Grant Program awardees. The 26 grant recipients represent DC-based non-profit organizations that work with youth from across all eight wards of the District in the areas of sports, performing and cultural arts.
Events DC Board of Director’s, Chairman Max Brown and Alan Bubes, Co-Chairman of the Sports and Entertainment Committee, made remarks during the luncheon program to praise the efforts of the organizations supporting DC youth in reaching their full potential. Luncheon attendees shared stories of how the grant funds have directly benefited their respective organizations.
Reflecting on the impact of the grant program, a Girls on the Run coach said, “We served more girls than ever this season. Events DC has helped us to provide scholarships to over 70% of our girls. Events DC allowed our 2,200 plus girls to participate in an end of the season 5K, this past Sunday at Freedom Plaza! Girls accomplished their goal of crossing the finish line STRONG, knowing that they CAN!”
Each year, Events DC has committed to investing in organizations that do incredible work to enrich the lives of youth in the city. The luncheon provides an opportunity to recognize the non-profit organizations participating in the grant program as well as afford them a chance to network and potentially collaborate with their peers.
In FY2019, Events DC awarded $200,000 during two grant cycles ($100,000 in the first cycle and $100,000 in the second cycle).
