The new Entertainment and Sports Arena will host two high school championship tournaments this season. The first championship was on February 16 and 17 where the four best DC public high school boys’ and girls’ teams competed in the semi-finals and final rounds of the DCIAA championships. The Wilson Tigers boys’ team took home their third consecutive DCIAA basketball title and the Dunbar girls’ basketball team celebrated a 65-55 win over the Wilson Tigers girls’ team.

The second championship tournament is on March 3, when the DC State Athletic Association brings the top public, private, charter, and independent high school boys’ and girls’ basketball teams together to compete in the Class A and AA basketball championship finals.

Teams to watch include the St. John’s College High School girls’ team, who are currently ranked number two in the country and top the DCSAA power rankings, followed by Sidwell Friends and Georgetown Visitation Prep. The DCSAA Boys Class AA power rankings currently have Gonzaga College HS at the top, followed by The Maret School and Sidwell Friends. Kings Academy, Kipp College Prep, and St. Anslem’s Abbey lead in the DCSAA Boys Class A rankings.

Tickets are $11 for the championship dates and only available at the Entertainment and Sports Arena (1100 Oak Drive SE) box office on event day. The easiest way to get to and from the Arena is by taking Lyft to the Arena or metro to the Congress Heights station.
